INTEC Acoustics
IDEA
IDEA (Intelligent Distributed Environmental Assessment) is a project funded under the IWT Strategic Basic Research (SBO) scheme, with primary interest of valorization for the benefit of society. The project focuses on the development of local, intelligent measurement networks for noise and UFP (ultra fine particulate matter), which demand a high spatial and temporal resolution. An important goal is to develop cost-effective and robust measurement nodes, which compensate for the use of low-cost sensors by applying biologically inspired intelligent systems, which reduce the loss of measurement data quality. In addition, the developed measurement nodes will provide functionalities for sound source identification, for creating reliable alarms, or for feeding models for short-term prediction. At this stage, a proof-of-concept network is being rolled out in the city of Ghent. The acoustics group of INTEC is the coordinating partner of this project. More information can be found on the project website.
